Final share pick-up is this weekend!
October 12th, 2010 by Admin
This is the exciting part, folks! Over the past weekend more than half of our 2010 shares were picked up by members at our east Vancouver distribution spot. We hope that some of you have already enjoyed a batch of rolls or pumpkin pie made with this year’s Urban Grains bounty.
The fun continues this coming weekend, which will be the final chance for members to pick up shares.
Final distribution times: Friday Oct. 15, 4-8pm and Saturday Oct. 16, 10-4pm. (Check our previous email announcement for location details.)
As always, contact us if needed at urbangrains@ffcf.bc.ca

My first 2 cups of the red whole wheat turned into some very tasty drop biscuits yesterday! Made with (almost) entirely local ingredients. With this flour it makes a solid, nutty biscuit.
Super Easy and tasty drop biscuits.
1/3 C butter (cubed, chilled)
2 C flour
1 C milk
1.5 tsp Baking Powder
Salt/spices to taste
Mix flour, baking powder and butter together until crumbly. add 1 c milk (can use water, soy milk, almond milk, etc instead) and stir just until mixed. Drop onto ungreased baking sheet and bake for 12 minutes at 450 degrees.
Makes 12 Tasty Biscuits. Best eaten straight from the oven with a bit of butter.
(Also, you can add anything you want for flair – olives, sun dried tomatoes, honey+blueberries, cheese)
Num! I can’t wait to keep baking!

Thanks Kerry! What a great sounding recipe – the makings of a perfect Sunday breakfast! Thanks for sharing. If anyone else has some ‘first of their flour’ recipes, I would be thrilled to hear about your experiences.

Nice to see a project like this backed by so many with like minded interest.
My own project this year built up KAMUT seed. Hard white spring wheat Ethiopian blue tinge and Utrecht Blue.

Great idea offering the indrigeents! I’ve tried the thick rolled oats and made some fantastic tasting oatmeal in the mornings with them much better then the local bulk oats I usually buy.
